Ian Kennedy

Ian Kennedy studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, where he won many prizes, including the coveted Gold Medal for Singers. Since 1977, when he became a member of the BBC Singers, he has combined his choral commitments with a busy solo diary, and has gained a most enviable reputation as a highly versatile artist, with a repertoire which reflects his highly catholic musical tastes.

As a tenor soloist, he has appeared in opera, oratorio and concert throughout the U.K. and Europe, as well as North and South America in music ranging from mediaeval times to contemporary classical and cabaret. He is a regular broadcaster, and in the 1988 Promenade Concerts was a soloist in the 50th anniversary performance of Vaughan Williams' "Serenade to Music".

For several years he was musical director for "Gilbert and Sullivan for All", with whom he toured extensively, including four nationwide visits to U.S.A. and Canada, as well as Australia and New Zealand. He is an experienced accompanist, and numbers amongst the orchestras he has conducted the Houston Symphony and the Los Angeles Philharmonic - with an audience of 10,000 in the Hollywood Bowl.

Along with his wife, soprano Evette Davis, he is a frequent and popular guest artist on P & 0 liners. In addition to his commitments as a performer, Ian is greatly in demand as a teacher and adjudicator. In 1987, he was appointed Professor of Singing at the Guildhall School of Music, where he now enjoys a very busy teaching schedule.

His interests outside music include sport and gardening, though most of the little spare time he has is spent with his wife and 7-year-old twin daughters, Alexandra and Laura.
