Ian Kennedy
Ian Kennedy studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama,
London, where he won many prizes, including the coveted Gold Medal
for Singers. Since 1977, when he became a member of the BBC Singers,
he has combined his choral commitments with a busy solo diary, and
has gained a most enviable reputation as a highly versatile artist,
with a repertoire which reflects his highly catholic musical tastes.
As a tenor soloist, he has appeared in opera, oratorio and concert
throughout the U.K. and Europe, as well as North and South America
in music ranging from mediaeval times to contemporary classical
and cabaret. He is a regular broadcaster, and in the 1988 Promenade
Concerts was a soloist in the 50th anniversary performance of Vaughan
Williams' "Serenade to Music".
For several years he was musical director for "Gilbert and
Sullivan for All", with whom he toured extensively, including
four nationwide visits to U.S.A. and Canada, as well as Australia
and New Zealand. He is an experienced accompanist, and numbers amongst
the orchestras he has conducted the Houston Symphony and the Los
Angeles Philharmonic - with an audience of 10,000 in the Hollywood
Bowl.
Along with his wife, soprano Evette Davis, he is a frequent and
popular guest artist on P & 0 liners.In addition to his commitments
as a performer, Ian is greatly in demand as a teacher and adjudicator.
In 1987, he was appointed Professor of Singing at the Guildhall
School of Music, where he now enjoys a very busy teaching schedule.
His interests outside music include sport and gardening, though
most of the little spare time he has is spent with his wife and
7-year-old twin daughters, Alexandra and Laura.
